UK adspend growing more slowly, however set to buck the trend
The rate of growth of UK advertising expenditure halved from the second to the third quarter, according to data from the Advertising Association and Warc, while full-year forecasts have been revised downwards. However, radio (excluding branded content) enjoyed a strong third quarter, with the retail, industrial and government categories all increasing spend. Overall AA/Warc expect an annual increase of 8.9%, radio’s best performance since 2000.

Why have Apple and Google suddenly gotten so interested in streaming music? Because it could rally people to iOS or Android since mobile is where they listen, according to new stats I’ve attained about Spotify. The company has been telling its brand advertisers that mobile now accounts for the majority of listening, with 42% on phones and 10% on tablets, while its desktop software handles 45% and its web player runs 3%. It seems the opening of shuffle play on phones and its ad-supported free tier on tablets in late 2013, has drawn more users to Spotify streaming on the go.
Spencer Pryor, the founding Managing Director of Eklipse Sports Radio has resigned from the company just days before the station is due to relaunch. He says he’s off to help launch a new national digital station instead. DAB station Eklipse broadcasts from Scotland and is changing its name as RockSport Radio after a change in management last year.
