Global Concludes its Week-long Reveal of New Stations

After several tantalising teasers and trailers, Global Radio has concluded its week-long reveal of new stations. Last week, the group announced its plans to introduce several brand-new radio stations nationally on digital radio and on Global Player.

Three of the five brands set to launch were confirmed last week. Listeners can now access 70’s classics, 90’s throwbacks and ‘non-stop old skool’ anthems as a result of the newly established stations. Today Global released the final portion of its series of new stations. Starting tomorrow, newly upgraded Smooth Country and Smooth Chill will be available on DAB.

 

Managing Director of Heart, James Rea commented: “We’re incredibly excited to reveal yet another addition to the Heart brand – Heart 70s… The playlist is pure 70s feel good and with all these new stations joining the Heart family, our listeners are in for a treat this weekend!”

In a separate announcement, Rea said: “… Heart 90s will celebrate the greatest hits from this iconic decade, which produced some of the biggest feel-good records of all time. It’s a very exciting time for the nation’s biggest commercial radio brand…”

Al Smith, Deputy Managing Editor of Capital XTRA said: “This is a hugely exciting time for Capital XTRA as we launch a brand-new station dedicated to the biggest old skool anthems of all time, playing classic after classic, non-stop, 24/7. It’s the perfect time to expand the capital XTRA brand as we celebrate record audience figures, with 1.9 million listeners now tuning in every week.”

Sam Jackson, Managing Editor of Smooth said: “To launch two new Smooth branded stations on one day is hugely exciting for us and confirms our vision to grow and develop the brand.

“Smooth Country will celebrate the best country music hits, while Smooth Chill will play the best music to relax and unwind to, no matter what time of the day. Through these new stations, we can’t wait to introduce Smooth to even more people, as well as giving our existing 5.7 million weekly listeners even more opportunities to enjoy the music they love.”
