Smart speakers moving beyond the living room and basic tasks
Smart speakers have traditionally been used in the living room and for basic tasks like streaming music but the device is set to broaden its reach, according to data from technology company Qualcomm.
Among consumers in China, Germany, Japan, the UK and the US, one-half of smart speaker owners say they use the device for streaming music. Over two-fifths also use the device for weather updates (44%) and news updates (41%).
However, consumers are using smart speakers for a broader range of purposes. One-quarter (26%) say they are using the device for home control, 19% for online shopping purposes and 16% as a supporting device for mobile or PC gaming.
