Spotify has leveraged acquisitions to build up its podcasting empire over the past several months. Some additional details have emerged about the company’s big deal from last week, its purchase of sports-centric media operation The Ringer.
A source told Bloomberg that the upfront price tag for The Ringer was nearly $200 million. That will be followed at a later date by another $50 million.
Times Radio is making lucrative offers to hire leading BBC presenters, with Radio 4 Any Questions host Chris Mason in discussions to join the new radio station and leading names such as the Today programme host Nick Robinson being approached about roles.
The BBC could be forced to sell off most of its radio stations in a “massive pruning back” of its activities, according to a report.
The number of TV channels could also be reduced, the website scaled back and stars banned from taking well-paid second jobs.
Radiocentre celebrated World Radio Day on Thursday focussing on how the medium makes a meaningful difference to people’s lives in the UK.
As part of this it is asking stations to tweet their charity, cause-related and general good deeds under the hashtag #ForceForGood #WorldRadioDay.
