|
What did we think of this quarter's RAJAR results?
Our Insight team answer 7 questions on this quarter's results
View the headlines here.
|
1. What will RAJAR Q2 2015 be remembered for?
Strong mobile listening figures
that continue to grow, with over
a quarter of adults (25.4%) now claiming to
listen via a mobile/tablet
device at least once a month.
|
 |
2. Which radio station is your RAJAR hero?
Can I have two?!
The team over at Capital Xtra
(London) must be doing something right this year, as they post performance increases of 33.5% year on year and an impressive 53.7% quarter on quarter.
The KISS network has also had an impressive RAJAR, despite dropping from the number one breakfast spot in London.
The figures, particularly on the digital only stations, have been positive
and the network now delivers
their best ever reach of 5.2 million weekly listeners!

 |
3. Which stations have surprised you this quarter?
Lyca Radio and Signal 107
Both stations have posted
strong RAJARs. Signal 107, which
broadcasts to Wolverhampton and
the surrounding areas is up a
staggering 158%
year on year!
Whilst Lyca Radio in London also
had something to shout about as
they delivered weekly listening
figures of 160,000 - up
97.5% year
on year.
The mobile phone company, Lyca Media, acquired
the 1458 license in 2014 and after
a slow start, are building up
their figures.

4. How would you describe digital radio's results?
Great, again! 40% of all listening is now digital. That figure continues to edge closer to the golden 50% mark, which is the point the UK government will consider switching off FM.
Absolute Radio 80s, Kisstory and Kiss Fresh continue to be great examples of digital done-good; all three stations have seen double digit percentage growth over the past year.
The digital-only station arena will see multiple fresh entrants early next year. The new D2 transmitter sees the likes of Virgin Radio, talkRADIO and Magic Mellow enter the fray. So prepare for a digital shake-up, with results potentially being available this time next year.

 |
5. What about the notorious London Breakfast Show battle?
We have a new number one breakfast show in London with Dave and Lisa from Capital nabbing the top spot – they even beat Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1 (in London). Magic, Heart, Kiss and LBC all follow behind despite posting really good results themselves.
Also worth a mention is Nick Ferrari on LBC, who boosted his figures to 719,000 listeners. Coverage of the General Election and strong news stories over the
quarter have no doubt helped improve figures for Ferrari and the station as a whole.
|
 |
6. What is your favourite fact this quarter?
Over half (50.9%) of the UK population now has access to a DAB
radio player. In 2007, that figure stood at 20.3%.
|
 |
7. To close, describe RAJAR Q2 2015 in one sentence?
A positive quarter for commercial radio, with lots of strong Q on Q growth across the board and the first set of figures for the new Bauer City 3 stations.
