IRN nominations revealed

The awards ceremony that celebrates news teams and reporters at radio stations across the UK has revealed the nomination list for 2014, ahead of the event on March 27th. The IRN Awards will present 10 categories this year, from Best Interview to Best Entertainment Coverage.

Sunrise Radio stations sold to Lyca Media

Four stations owned by Asian station network Sunrise Radio Limited have been sold to telecoms giant Lyca Media Mobile. Sunrise Radio 1, Sunrise Radio 3, Time 107.5 and Time 106.6 have been purchased subject to Ofcom approval.

Smooth Radio to be taken off national multiplex

Global Radio are to take recently purchased Smooth Radio off the Digital One national multiplex and will replace it with a new, currently unnamed station playing “music from the 70s, 80s and early 90s” that appeals to audiences aged 35-54. Ofcom granted the group permission to make the changes with an announcement on the new station expected shortly.

Local radio praised at Parliament

Small businesses have been urged to advertise on local radio by MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven Simon Kirby. The minister told the house that over six hundred businesses have benefited from advertising on Brighton’s Juice 107.2 station in the last four years.
