1. What will RAJAR Q2 2013 be remembered for?
It’s been a bumper set of results for commercial radio in general, with continued gains for digital (see some impressive stats in question 4). Station-wise, KISS FM will be delighted to have passed the 2 million listener mark for the first time ever.

2. Which radio station is your RAJAR hero?
Choice FM London. The station has enjoyed a 43.8% leap in listeners this quarter, with 680,000 now tuning in every week.

3. Which station has surprised you this quarter?
Jazz FM have recorded their highest ever weekly reach with 758,000 people tuning in, up 26% from last quarter. The station’s hours are also up 42% year on year. A great result for the station and no doubt their recent marketing activity for their Love Supreme Jazz Festival in July has paid off.

4. How would you describe digital radio’s results?
For the first time, over half (52.5%) of the UK population use a digital platform to access radio each week. Interestingly, with the changes in technology 42.9% of 15-24 year olds have listened to radio via their mobile phone.

Digital radio’s success is highlighted by digital-only station Absolute Radio 80s who have now exceeded the 1 million listener mark, with 1.2 million adults tuning in every week – a 35.5% increase year on year.

5. What about the notorious London Breakfast Show battle? 
In the London commercial market Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon on Capital FM retain their number 1 spot with over 1.1 million tuning in. Heart London with Emma Bunton and Jamie Theakston remain in second place with 883,000 listeners while KISS FM with Rickie, Melvin and Charlie have had an impressive gain adding 210,000 new listeners (864,000 now tune in every week). The Christian O’Connell breakfast show on Absolute Radio now reaches 691,000 listeners each week nudging them ahead of Magic 105.4’s Neil Fox Breakfast Show which has 683,000.

Outside of commercial radio, Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw can breathe a sigh of relief! No more listeners have been shed and he has gained around 100,000.

6. What’s your favourite fact this quarter?
Congratulations to talkSPORT, who have recorded their best listening figures ever. They now reach a record 3.25 million listeners every week.

7. To close, describe RAJAR Q2 2013 in one word?
Eventful!
